Q&A - Accounting
T A S K - 1
✒ Why do you think accounting is seen as boring? Explain.
To
be honest, when I started watching the vocabulary video about this topic, it
crossed my mind that I have said several times that I would never be an
accountant, as I considered it a very boring job and that it was not for me.
With this text my perspective has changed....
Answering
the question, the reason why this area is seen as boring and tedious is that in
Mexico it is common for teenagers to opt for a career that has nothing to do
with numbers, since it is not something they enjoy and do well in school, in
this article it says:
"In
Mexico, 70% of students have failed math".
https://www.excelsior.com.mx/nacional/en-mexico-70-de-estudiantes-ha-reprobado-matematicas/1248182
I
have taken the Accounting course since high school, they taught me from NOM and
all the legal aspects to understand, as well as the different accounts to
elaborate the financial statements, I thought it was mostly numbers and good
memory for this career.
✒ Which of the jobs mentioned would be most interesting for you? Give your reasons.
Auditor.
I want to be a kind of police officer,
who does not have an established routine, working and meeting different
companies and people.
Auditors are specialists, they review the accounts of companies in order to ensure the validity and legality of their financial records. They can also act as advisors.
I am interested in these activities in
particular:
·
Examining
company accounts and financial control systems
·
Gauging
levels of financial risk within organizations
·
Liaising
with managerial staff and presenting findings and recommendations
·
Auditors
sometimes travel to meet clients and visit factory or warehouse locations in
order to make stock and equipment checks.
I like the idea of being able to help a variety of businesses from the bottom line of everything: money management. Even though I lack some of the requirements to be an auditor, such as writing and effective communication skills, I find this job extremely interesting as it is needed all over the world.
✒ Why is it so important for accountants to be ethical? Explain in detail.
Because it reflects the type of person you are and
the environment in which you have grown up. Since business and companies, and
of course, money, are the factors that move the world, the economy, jobs...
Acting under laws and principles, improves the quality of life and values of a
society and even the world, since we are immersed in a globalization, financial
problems can have repercussions on other companies and people.
By being honest with our actions, strong
professional relationships are established and, they can benefit more than two
individuals.
Omitting or manipulating information is one of the
most common practices, but we have already seen that sooner or later it is
exposed and this has a significant impact on the way the company is viewed in
general.
Furthermore, I can add that confidentiality of data
is highly relevant as it degrades trust, professional skills and respect.
Your answer are really professional, I enjoy the fact that you answer from your own experience, your opinion but also with articles that support your ideas; I agree in the last question where you were talking about create strong professional relationships.
ReplyDeleteHi, thank you very much for reading my post!
DeleteYes of course, it has always been in my head that fact about Mexicans hating math, haven't you heard about people choosing their career because "it does not have math"? because I have and very much, even some classmates decided to become doctors because of what I just told you.
Although I believe that the new generations are becoming more and more interested in areas with more accuracy, and that is something that the accounting career offers.
Finally, I believe that creating strong professional relationships is of vital importance, since success can be achieved together, and if there are no ethics, there are no rewards, at least not honest ones.
I'm impressed, your answers are very good and grounded. I agree with that, I tell you that I spent three semesters in accounting, it was really very boring for me, so I decided to change to the international trade career. Although I confess that like you, I am interested in the position of auditor.
ReplyDeleteGreat job.
Hi, I found your story very interesting, that you spent three semesters in that career and that you moved to another one.... Did you have any feelings when you read things related to that career again?
DeleteI understand that sometimes even when we try, that career is not for us, you shouldn't force yourself to like something.
In fact, as I mentioned in my answers, I went through that career as well, but it is not something I could see myself doing in the future.
Even though it has awesome areas, and we both were attracted to the auditing field, our dream is more focused on International Trade.
But even there, accountants are needed, they are everywhere!
Hi Jacqueline, I read your answers and like my colleagues I find it very professional how you wrote each answer and substantiating it, I really enjoy reading your work, well done thanks for your ideas and share. : `)
ReplyDeleteHi, thank you very much for reading all my post and taking the time, I am glad that my answers are understandable and can help more people to understand a topic that I found difficult at the beginning.
DeleteI appreciate your comment!
Hi Jacqueline, I really enjoy reading your works, and I agree with most of your answers nonetheless, I disagree that math makes Accounting boring, I think that the outdated way in which universities provide this subject is what makes it boring.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, mathematics can be difficult, but undoubtedly there will be things that you are good at and others that you are not so good at, because the education in Mexico can have an influence, but also your natural interest in these exact sciences.
DeleteThank you very much for reading all my post and taking the time!
Hello Jaqueline, I agree with you on all your answers, what caught my eye was the way you described accounting of it being boring. I really liked that you included real data about math in Mexico. In my particular situation, I'm actually really good at math and at one point i did considered going into accounting but the boring part for me was the aspect of being in a cubicle all day long. Overall great job, i really enjoyed reading your answers!
ReplyDeleteInteresting anecdote, but what do you think now that an accountant can do more than just sit in a cubicle? I would like to know your answer.
DeleteThank you very much for reading my post, I appreciate it very much!
Hi Jacqui! After reading your work I agree that maybe most of the people hate Accounting because of maths, but I disagree that is just because they are bad at it, I say this because personally, I have always been good at maths, but I have always hated acounting as I have had horrible teachers that didn't know how to explain at all and also for me is really boring, and as I am a really active person I feel like I turn my brain off every time I hear of accounting because it is always the same thing.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting words, it is very good that you have shared this story with me, because I can learn from different points of view.
DeleteIn my opinion, I like mathematics but not applied to finance, but, more like calculus. Thank you very much for your comment, what do you think now about the actual career?
I would like to know your answer.
